ย Nigeria Strongly Rejects Trump’s Claims Of ‘anti-christian Genocide’
After Trump threatened to enter Nigeria ‘guns a-blazing,’ sources told US media that Washington is considering precision drone strikes in the West African nation
Nigeria has responded to US President Donald Trumpโs recent comments suggesting that extremist violence against Christians in the West African country was state-sponsored and could warrant intervention from Washington.
State involvement in any religious persecution carried out in Nigeria is โimpossibleโ under the countryโs law and constitution, Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar said on 4 November.
The minister stressed in a press conference with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul that Nigeria has a โconstitutional commitment to religious freedom and rule of law.โ
โThis is what shows that there can’t be a religious persecution that can be supported in any way, shape or form by the government of Nigeria at any level, be it federal, be it regional, be it local, it’s impossible,โ he added.
Nigeria’s population, around 220 million, is nearly split between Christian and Muslim. Christians have historically played key roles in Nigerian government.
