China, Spain Deepen Ties Amid ‘Collapsing Global Order’
Madrid seeks deeper strategic and economic ties with Beijing while distancing itself from US military adventures in West Asia
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez pledged to deepen ties between their nations on 14 April, presenting closer cooperation as a response to what Xi described as a “collapsing global order” and escalating tensions triggered by the US war on Iran.
“The facts have shown deepening cooperation between China and Spain serves the interests of both countries’ peoples and aligns with the prevailing trend of our times,” Xi said
The Chinese president warned that “the international order is crumbling into disarray,” describing both chaos and moral decline during his meeting with Sanchez.
He called for stronger coordination, urging both sides to “enhance communication, consolidate mutual trust, and cooperate closely to resist any regression toward the law of the jungle.”
Sanchez, speaking alongside Xi, pushed for tighter China–EU relations, saying it is “more necessary today than ever” to build a stronger partnership that can “contribute to providing solutions” to global instability, trade tensions, and ongoing wars.
