❗️US Senate blocks bid to halt Iran war, keeps powers in Trump’s hands
The Republican-led US Senate voted 52-47 to block a resolution that would have forced a withdrawal from the war on Iran, marking the fourth time this year lawmakers have effectively handed war-making authority to President Donald Trump.
Democrats warned the conflict is “illegal and unjustified,” accusing Congress of failing to meet even the basic requirements of the War Powers Act, which mandates authorization within 60 days. That deadline is now approaching, with no clear legal mandate in place.
Despite backing continued military action, several Republican senators signaled unease, calling for a future vote to formalize the war if it drags on.
Others openly acknowledged the lack of a clear exit strategy, even as leadership praised the military campaign and prepared for a potential funding request that could reach hundreds of billions.
The vote underscores a widening gap between public accountability and Washington’s wartime posture, with lawmakers opting to sustain the offensive while postponing any binding decision on its legality or limits.
