❗️US military conducts 21st strike on alleged drug-smuggling boat, killing three
The Pentagon has revealed it had carried out its 21st confirmed strike on what it described as a drug-trafficking vessel, according to a statement from US Southern Command. Southern Command said intelligence indicated the boat was moving along a known smuggling route and carrying narcotics. It added that three men it labeled “narco-terrorists” were killed in the strike, which took place in international waters in the Eastern Pacific.
Official statements from US officials have consistently framed the strikes in the Caribbean as part of a wider crackdown on alleged drug vessels but have never provided any evidence to corroborate these claims.
The military operation raises the number of people extrajudicially killed in US military strikes on boats, using a wide range of military tactics, from drone strikes to fighter jets and gunships, to 83.
