❗️UN warns Gaza faces decades-long humanitarian and economic catastrophe
The UN says the Gaza genocide has produced a “human-made abyss” that could require more than $70 billion in reconstruction over several decades.
From 2023 to 2024, Gaza’s economy contracted by 87 percent, leaving GDP per capita at just $161, among the lowest in the world, as Israel repeatedly violates the US-brokered ceasefire. At least 342 Palestinians have been killed since the truce began on 10 October.
The humanitarian crisis is intensifying as Gaza’s 2 million residents remain largely displaced, living in tents or shelters without proper sewage systems. Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding, forcing families to dig cesspits that overflow and spread disease. Aid agencies warn that children are particularly vulnerable, and families are struggling to prevent illness in squalid conditions.
