Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced the suspension of the automatic renewal of a defense agreement with Israel, marking a notable pause in military and technology cooperation between the two sides.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event in Verona, Meloni said the government had decided to halt the renewal of the pact, which covers the exchange of military equipment and joint research in defense technology, according to Italian news agency Ansa. The move places the future of the framework under review amid shifting political calculations in Rome.

The agreement had previously underpinned structured defense ties between Italy and Israel, but the suspension signals a recalibration of that relationship.
