 ❗️Israeli military chief purges top officers over 7 October failures

Israel’s military chief announced the removal of several senior officers from reserve duty and issued reprimands to others, citing failures that led to Hamas’ 7 October, 2023, operation. Among those affected were former heads of the intelligence and operations directorates, as well as the southern command overseeing Gaza, with one officer resigning and another facing termination of service.

Military chief Eyal Zamir described the incident as a “severe, resounding, systemic failure” in protecting Israelis, stressing that the lessons of that day must guide future operations. The decision comes amid ongoing public outcry, as thousands gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday calling for a formal inquiry, which the Netanyahu government has so far refused to establish.
