During its war on Gaza, Israel has frequently obstructed ceasefire agreements with Hamas, even when the resistance group agreed to the terms, according to Israel’s Channel 13 investigative show HaMakor on Friday.
The program reported that, based on interviews with senior US and Israeli officials, Israel prevented a ceasefire deal at least seven times over nearly two years of its genocidal operations in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Officials attributed much of the responsibility to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who often yielded to pressure from far-right ministers, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department under President Joe Biden, said that at the beginning of the war in October 2023, Hamas was prepared to release “some hostages.”
