❗️Amnesty International formally concludes Israel is executing a deliberate state policy of ethnic cleansing
A thorough report by Amnesty International published on 10 June asserts that the Israeli government is executing an ethnic cleansing campaign in Area C of the occupied West Bank, citing extensive field research and verified digital evidence.
Between January 2023 and April 2026, state-backed settler violence and administrative restrictions forcibly displaced 5,910 Palestinians from 117 Bedouin and herding communities. The organization concluded these actions constitute the war crime of unlawful transfer and the crime against humanity of forcible transfer.
Senior officials, including Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, have explicitly facilitated this policy. By January 2026, Israel issued over 240,000 firearm licenses to civilians. Amnesty International documented armed settlers, often supported by Israeli military forces, raiding villages and sabotaging critical infrastructure. In one instance, sanctioned settler Yinon Levi killed activist Awda al-Hathaleen on 28 July 2025.
While the Israeli military claims troops “act to disperse those involved and restore order”, the research found the military often participated in or enabled the violence. Consequently, 45 communities were fully depopulated.
Amnesty International urges third states to impose targeted sanctions on officials like Benjamin Netanyahu to end the “sustained and deliberate state policy” of dispossession.
