Trump says he does not need declaration of war for attacks on Venezuela
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday, 23 October that he does not plan to ask Congress for a declaration of war before possible strikes on suspected drug smugglers in Venezuela.
When a reporter asked whether he would seek congressional approval, Trump said his team would brief lawmakers but saw no need for authorization, adding: “I don’t think we’re gonna necessarily ask for a declaration of war, I think we’re just gonna kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. OK? We’re gonna kill them. They’re going to be, like, dead,” the US president said.
