 Turkiye’s Gaza Push: Proxy Politics Under US Watch

In the wake of the Gaza ceasefire, Ankara is staking out strategic ground in the Palestinian enclave, deploying humanitarian and diplomatic tools to consolidate influence under Washington’s oversight.

With the enforcement of the Gaza ceasefire on 9 October, Turkiye has reasserted itself as a central player in regional diplomacy. Ankara played a key role in the Sharm el-Sheikh negotiations, working alongside Egypt, Qatar, and the US.

Far from a humanitarian gesture, this was a deliberate bid to reassert Turkish presence in post-war Gaza through security coordination, reconstruction involvement, and political mediation.

From the onset of Israel’s war on Gaza, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan adopted an outspoken stance, branding Tel Aviv’s actions as genocide and halting Turkish airspace access and trade with Israel, which has continued indirectly or in limited form.

These moves, more symbolic than impactful, served to distance the NATO-member state from the western bloc’s pro-Israel posture and amplify its self-image as the moral voice of the Islamic world.
