‘Tense Calm’ In Aleppo Following Overnight Clashes Between Government Forces, SDF
An SDF delegation has arrived in Damascus for talks following the clashes, which killed at least two and injured dozens
Syrian state media announced a ceasefire agreement early on 7 October, following heavy overnight clashes between Damascus’s forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The fighting erupted in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, predominantly Kurdish areas that were being besieged by the Syrian army.
A “tense calm” is prevailing over the two neighborhoods, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
State news outlet SANA had reported in the early hours of Tuesday that “an agreement was reached to cease fire in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.”
According to SOHR, “forces affiliated with the Syrian Ministry of Defense carried out an attack with heavy and medium machineguns on various areas within Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods,” resulting in “fierce clashes.”
