Syrian Delegation In Moscow To Deepen Defense Cooperation

Syria’s president is preparing to visit Moscow later this month for the first Russian–Arab summit

A delegation of top officials from the Syrian Ministry of Defense arrived in Moscow on 2 October for security talks with their Russian counterparts, state media SANA reported.

The Syrian delegation, headed by Chief of the General Staff Major General Ali al-Naasan, was received by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-bek Yevkurov in the Russian capital.

This visit is part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the two countries’ Defense Ministries,” SANA stated.

The talks will help prepare the way for self-appointed Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s visit to Moscow later this month for the first Russian–Arab summit.

Sharaa, the former leader of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front, previously fought against the government of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, which received strong backing from Russia during the 14-year war that began in 2011.
