 Syrian Christians Protest Extremist Sectarian Attacks In Suqaylabiyah

Extremists affiliated with Syria’s new government have targeted all of the country’s minority groups, viewing most of them as ‘pigs’ and ‘infidels’

Christians in Syria’s Hama Governorate demonstrated on 28 March to protest sectarian attacks by extremist Sunni mobs the day before that resulted in widespread damage to homes, shops, and cars.

Christian men took to the streets last night in cities across Syria to protest the attacks, including in Damascus, Suwayda, Suqaylabiyah, and Kafrbahm in rural Hama.

The sectarian attacks took place overnight on Friday, targeting the predominantly Christian town of Suqaylabiyah following a dispute between a Christian man from the village and a Sunni Muslim man from the nearby town of Qalaat al-Madiq, home to ancient Greek Romans of Apamea.

Following the dispute, scores of men on motorcycles from Qalaat al-Madiq descended on Suqaylabiyah to loot and burn the property of Christians.

Al-Suqaylabiyya: Footage documents mobs smashing one of the cafés in the Christian city of Al-Suqaylabiyya.

The man in the video, coming from the town of Qalaat al-Mudiq, says: ‘Smash it, smash it, smash it’ and ‘This belongs to the pigs.’“
