 Russia, Israel Holding ‘High-level’ Talks On Syria, Iran: Report

Israel reportedly wants Russia to maintain its bases in Syria as part of an effort to keep the country ‘weak’ and ‘fragmented’

Israel has been holding high-level, secret negotiations with Russia on Iran and Syria, Israeli state broadcaster KAN reported on 3 July.

After Israel attacked Iran last month, Russia offered to mediate between Tel Aviv and Tehran.

According to KAN, Israeli authorities reportedly initiated talks with Moscow a week after a ceasefire to temporarily end the conflict was reached.

Details of the talks were not revealed, though Israel reportedly aims to outline a framework on Iran similar to the ceasefire agreement previously reached with Hezbollah following the war in Lebanon.

Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on 13 June, while the US bombed Iran’s three major nuclear sites on 22 June. The war was halted following a ceasefire announcement by US President Donald Trump on 24 June.
