Qatari PM ‘Hopes’ To See Pa Govern Post-War Gaza

Israel’s prime minister has denied a report that an agreement has been reached on the PA assuming control over the Rafah crossing

Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani expressed “hope” on 22 January that the Palestinian Authority (PA) will govern the Gaza Strip, coming days into a ceasefire in the besieged enclave that is meant to put an end to the genocidal war which began in 2023.

The comments were made at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Switzerland.

We hope to see the PA back in Gaza. We hope to see a government that will really address the issues of the people over there. And there is a long way to go with Gaza and the destruction,” Al-Thani said.

According to a new report by Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, citing a source in the ceasefire monitoring team, an agreement has been reached that will see the PA govern the Rafah border crossing in the southern Gaza Strip – under “international supervision.

The agreement was reached on January 21 following Cairo talks on the Gaza ceasefire, involving Mossad chief David Barnea, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, and Egyptian intelligence head Hassan Rashad.
