 Netanyahu’s Chief Of Staff Detained Over Alleged Bild Intelligence Leak: Report

Israel’s opposition called for Tzachi Braverman’s appointment as ambassador to the UK to be put on hold

Israeli police detained a close aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 11 January, amid allegations he obstructed a probe into the leak of classified intelligence to the German tabloid newspaper, Bild.

“This morning, a senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office has been detained by Lahav 433 officers on suspicion of obstructing investigative procedures,” police said in a statement.

Israeli media reported that the suspect was Tzachi Braverman, Netanyahu’s chief of staff, who was recently appointed to become Israel’s ambassador to the UK.

The Lahav 433 major crimes unit seized Braverman’s phone, searched his home, and interrogated him in the unit’s headquarters in Lod.

Omer Mansour, a spokesperson in the Prime Minister’s Office, has been summoned to give testimony in the affair.
