Mbs Seeks ‘explicit’ US Support For Palestinian State Before Israel Normalization: Report
US President Donald Trump has recently expressed hopes that Saudi Arabia will join the Abraham Accords ‘very soon’
Saudi Arabia has doubled down on its conditions for normalization with Israel ahead of talks between Riyadh and Washington this month, sources told Reuters on 10 November.
“Riyadh has signaled to Washington through diplomatic channels that its position has not changed: it will sign up only if there is agreement on a roadmap to Palestinian statehood,” two Gulf sources told the news agency.
“The intention is to avoid diplomatic missteps and ensure alignment of the Saudi and US positions before any public statements are made,” they added.
One of the sources said the aim of these messages was “to avoid any confusion” during the talks between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) and US President Donald Trump at the White House on 18 November.
The sources said Saudi Arabia is demanding that “any move to recognize Israel must be part of a new framework, not just an extension of any deal.”
