 Israeli Knesset Advances Death Penalty Bill For Palestinian Prisoners

The final two readings to approve the hanging of Palestinian prisoners is set to take place next week

The Israeli Knesset’s National Security Committee has advanced a bill to allow the execution of Palestinian prisoners, voting late on 24 March to approve the final two votes that will codify the draft law into legislation.

The bill was put forward by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party.

MK Limor Son Har-Melech, Ben Gvir’s party colleague who sponsored the bill, said “the law sets out a clear and unequivocal message: Those who choose to murder Jews because they are Jews lose their right to live,” while calling it “a moral and necessary step.”

“No more revolving door of attacks, imprisonments, and releases. This law restores deterrence, restores justice, and sends a clear and unambiguous message to our enemies: Jewish blood is not cheap. We will continue to lead an uncompromising policy against terror until victory,” Ben Gvir said after the vote.

An Otzma Yehudit statement said the bill will head for its final readings next week.
