A pair of Israeli drone strikes against the southern Lebanese village of Mays al-Jabal killed at least two people, described as a “Hezbollah cell” by Israeli military officials. The slain were described by the military as operating a drone in the area.
The slain were identified as Hezbollah member Ali Shukair, and local paramedic Muhammad Hammadi, who arrived on the scene after the first strike against Shukair and was attacked in the subsequent strike.
Israel said that Hezbollah has been launching explosive drones in the area and crossing the border into northern Israel. Israel has been carrying out repeated attacks on southern Lebanon, and the two sides launch tit-for-tat attacks across the border since October.
The attacks came following a weekend of Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, which killed a Hezbollah member Ali Nazih Abed Ali on Saturday and wounded three people in a subsequent attack on Beit Lif.
Tensions have been soaring on the border in recent weeks, with Israeli officials threatening an invasion of Lebanon, and the international community urging civilians of other countries to leave Lebanon as soon as possible.
Israel continued to increase tensions against the Lebanese capital city of Beirut, with Israeli warplanes breaking the sound barrier over the city as well as across southern Lebanon.
