Iraqi Resistance Group Vows To Target US Bases If Washington Joins Israeli War On Iran
The Kataib Hezbollah resistance faction said it was ‘closely monitoring’ US movements in the region
The Kataib Hezbollah resistance faction in Iraq has threatened to intervene against US military bases if Washington directly enters Tel Aviv’s ongoing war against Iran.
“Iran does not need any military support from anyone to deter the criminal Zionist entity. It has the men and capabilities to humiliate Netanyahu and curb the tyranny of this usurping entity,” Kataib Hezbollah said in a statement on 15 June.
“While Iran is confronting the Zionist aggression with courage and steadfastness, we are closely monitoring the movements of the American enemy army in the region. If America intervenes in the war, we will act directly against its interests and bases spread throughout the region without hesitation,” it added.
Kataib Hezbollah also called on the Iraqi government “take a courageous stance to prevent the war from expanding, by closing the embassy of the greatest evil and expelling the American occupation forces from the country, as they are the clearest and most dangerous threat to the security of Iraq and the stability of the region.”
The statement came as Iran continued to face heavy Israeli bombardment for the third day since the start of a US-backed war on the country.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, expressing Iraq’s readiness to help Iran deal with the aftermath of recent Israeli attacks. Sudani emphasized that Iran’s security is essential to regional stability and stressed Iraq’s efforts to prevent further escalation, including stopping Israel’s violations of Iraqi airspace.
Iran has responded to Israel’s widespread attacks with multiple waves of ballistic missile and drone attacks on targets in Israel.
Just a few days before the war began, Iran warned that all US military bases in the region were within its reach.
On 14 June, Iranian state media published warnings from Iranian authorities directed at the US, UK, and France, saying that their regional military bases and naval vessels will be targeted if they intervene to stop Iranian strikes on Israel.
At the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, Iranian-backed resistance movements in Iraq began carrying out drone and rocket attacks on US bases in both Iraq and Syria. The attacks were ongoing for several months before the Iraqi resistance came under heavy pressure from Baghdad and ceased attacks on US targets, while continuing to target Israel with drones.
Kataib Hezbollah’s warning came the same day that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran “has hard evidence that American forces have been supporting the Israeli regime.”
According to AP, US air defense systems and naval forces have participated in the Israeli attempts to intercept Iran’s ballistic missiles.
A 14 June report by Middle East Eye (MEE) said the US covertly delivered about 300 Hellfire missiles to Israel before it declared war on Iran.
