India, Brazil Grow Closer In Bid To Bypass US Tariffs

The BRICS members are boosting energy, defense, and agricultural ties in the face of Trump’s economic warfare

Brazil and India are accelerating plans to expand their $12-billion trade partnership in response to US President Donald Trump’s tariff campaign, seeking new markets to shield their economies from Washington’s punitive measures, Bloomberg reported on 15 October.

Delegations from both countries gathered in New Delhi this week to discuss tripling bilateral trade, according to government officials cited in the report.

The talks will focus on joint ventures in agribusiness, biofuels, and defense, with Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin leading a delegation including executives from Petrobras, Vale SA, and BRF SA.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Alckmin’s 15–17 October visit includes meetings with key ministers in defense, commerce, energy, and foreign affairs, following recent strategic and trade consultations in New Delhi aimed at expanding cooperation across critical minerals, health, and pharmaceuticals.

The ministry said both sides agreed to advance the roadmap set by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva – ahead of Lula’s planned state visit next year.
