 ‘Historic Milestone’: Qatar Formally Joins US-Led Pax Silica Declaration

Israel and the UAE have also joined the initiative, which aims for domination of the AI industry through securing control of supply chains

The US Department of State announced in the statement on 12 January Qatar’s entry into the Pax Silica agreement, a new Washington-led initiative aiming to secure control of artificial intelligence (AI) supply chains.

“Today, Qatar signed the Pax Silica Declaration, marking a historic milestone in the region’s economic integration. Together, the US and Qatar affirm a new geopolitical consensus that economic security is national security, and national security is economic security,” the State Department said.

“Qatar’s leadership and commitment to investing in secure energy, advanced technology, and critical minerals supply chains make it an indispensable partner in this effort, placing Qatar in the vanguard of nations that will drive the next stage of global economic growth,” the statement added.

The Gulf state has now become the eighth signatory of the Pax Silica initiative. The announcement comes a month after Israel formally entered into the agreement.

The UAE has also joined the initiative and is expected to sign and officially enter the agreement in the coming days.
