Haaretz: Netanyahu Wants the Army Chief’s Head, So His Henchman Has Escalated the War Against the IDF
Clashes Between Defense Minister Katz And Senior Defense Establishment Officials Are Merely Part Of A Plan, The Ultimate Goal Of Which Is To Allow Netanyahu To Place Full Responsibility For October 7 On Israel’s Security Chiefs / Amos Harel
This has been a week of escalation. But not in the Gaza Strip, though soldiers continue to die there in the name of a goal that hasn’t been clear for a long time; not in Lebanon, where Israel is threatening to remain beyond the 60 days agreed on in the cease-fire deal; and not even in Iran, despite headlines about increasingly close American-Israeli coordination on the possibility of attacking its nuclear facilities.
Rather, the main escalation, and the one that really worries the political and defense establishment, was the one between the prime and defense ministers, on one hand, and the Israel Defense Forces chief of staff on the other.
The reasons have been known for some time. October 7, 2023. At the same time, they are waging a holding action against the appointment of a state commission of inquiry.
Katz’s crude attack on IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari on Wednesday was part of a complicated, deceptive move whose goal is to remove Halevi and Shin Bet security service director Ronen Bar…
Netanyahu fired former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant two months ago and replaced him with Katz to obtain full control over the Defense Ministry and, through it, to strengthen his grip on the IDF brass….

“Many Israelis blame the prime minister for allowing Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood to happen”..These reports, as well as the ease with which Hamas fighters breached the Gaza border fence and the slow response of the air force and army, have led some Israelis to speculate that Netanyahu and others in Israeli intelligence and the military welcomed a Hamas attack.
