Google, Amazon Agreed To Secretly Notify Israel If Foreign Courts Demand Project Nimbus Data: Report
US tech giants have contributed to the genocide in Gaza by providing the Israeli army with AI and cloud computing services
A joint investigation by The Guardian and +972 Magazine has revealed that Google and Amazon have “submitted to highly unorthodox controls” imposed by Israel on a 2021 agreement reached between Tel Aviv and the two tech companies.
The $1.2-billion deal – known as Project Nimbus – provides Israel with advanced AI and cloud computing services.
These controls were inserted into the deal by Israel, in “anticipation of legal challenges over its use of the technology in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.”
Israeli Finance Ministry documents cited in the investigation reveal the two main controls imposed by Israel.
“The first prohibits Google and Amazon from restricting how Israel uses their products, even if this use breaches their terms of service. The second obliges the companies to secretly notify Israel if a foreign court orders them to hand over the country’s data stored on their cloud platforms, effectively sidestepping their legal obligations,” wrote +972 Magazine.
