 French Arms Sales To Israel Hit Record High In 2024: Report

Paris has pledged to recognize Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly, with Israel accusing Macron of ‘playing both sides’

Orders for French arms from Israel reached $29.27 million in 2024, marking the highest level since 2017, according to the French defense ministry’s 2025 exports report obtained by Mediapart on 4 September.

The report states that France achieved its second-best global performance with $23.33 billion in arms sales last year. Israel was among the countries experiencing what the ministry called a “record year” of purchases.

The ministry aimed to minimize the increase in sales to Israel, emphasizing that these orders made up only “0.13 percent of total orders recorded.” In comparison, Iraq accounted for $1.25 billion, the UAE for $718 million, and $Saudi Arabia for $170 million.

Licenses granted to Israel included two valued at $131.76 million under the ML3 category (ammunition and rocket adjustment devices), six worth $6.91 million for ML5 (fire control, surveillance, and warning equipment), and three valued at $5.40 million for ML15 (imaging or countermeasures equipment).

Amnesty International’s Aymeric Elluin told Mediapart these technologies are “essential for conducting ground operations” inside Gaza.
