Alawites have been facing a systematic campaign of violence and persecution since the new government in Syria came to power
At least eight people were killed in a bombing attack targeting an Alawite mosque in Syria’s central governorate of Homs on 26 December, marking the latest in a brutal campaign that has targeted the minority group over the past year.
A minimum of 18 others were wounded. The blast hit Imam Ali Mosque in Homs’s Wadi al-Danab area during Friday prayer.
Security sources cited by state news agency SANA said explosive devices were planted inside the mosque.
