Washington To Set Up Shop In Damascus Air Base As Part Of Syria–israel Pact: Report
The report comes ahead of a trip to Washington by former Al-Qaeda leader and self-appointed Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa
Washington will establish a presence at a Damascus air base as part of the Syrian–Israeli security pact being brokered by the US, sources told Reuters on 6 November.
The outlet spoke to six sources – two western officials and one Syrian defense official.
The sources confirmed that the US is “planning to use the base to help monitor the potential Israel–Syria agreement.”
Washington is “constantly evaluating our necessary posture in Syria to effectively combat ISIS (Islamic State) and (we) do not comment on locations or possible locations of (where) forces operate,” a US official said to Reuters.
The outlet has left the name and exact location of the air base undisclosed at the request of the official.
