❗️Erdogan meets Xi Jinping in Tianjin during SCO Summit
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Friday, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) 25th Council of Heads of State Summit.
This marks Erdoğan’s first visit to China in six years.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, the talks focused on economic cooperation as well as regional and global issues including Gaza, Ukraine, and Syria.
Erdogan stressed the importance of balancing bilateral trade through increased investment and called for greater coordination to encourage Chinese firms to invest in Turkiye.
He also highlighted the need for joint steps to align Turkiye’s Middle Corridor initiative with China’s Belt and Road project.
Both sides agreed to keep existing consultation and cooperation mechanisms running regularly, while Erdogan reaffirmed Turkiye’s support for the “One China” policy.
In addition to his meeting with Xi, Erdogan is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the summit.
