Leaders Of Armenia, Azerbaijan To Sign Peace Deal During Washington Visit: Report

The two countries reached a comprehensive agreement in March, yet Baku has demanded a change to the Armenian constitution

Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Washington later this week, mediated by US President Donald Trump, according to sources cited by Middle East Eye (MEE) on 4 August.

Trump will host Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House for the signing ceremony,” the sources said, adding that the MoU aims to “commit to the pursuit of peace.

The two officials had met in July in Abu Dhabi.

They are expected to sign a “letter of intent” during the Washington meeting, rather than a draft peace deal, the sources went on to say.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov called his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Monday to inform him about the summit … Fidan discussed bilateral and regional issues with Bayramov,” a third source told MEE.
