According to a letter sent to the President of the European Commission, unless the EU lifts its tariffs or EU companies begin manufacturing in the US, a 30% additional tariff is on the way to reduce the US-EU trade deficit; if the EU retaliates, the rate will increase even further.
Trump will also impose a 30% additional tariff on Mexico starting 1 August, the stated reason being that
Mexico is not doing enough to combat the cartels bringing fentanyl into the US.
