Stefanos Stefanou, head of left-wing AKEL party, has warned of โghettosโ forming in Southern Cyprus due to property sales to Israelis, citing โZionist schools and synagoguesโ as part of an Israeli expansion strategy.
โOur country is being taken away from us,โ he said at a recent party congress.
A plan years in the making
In August 2023, Israeli newspaper Haaretz ran the article: โThe Second Israel? Israelis Are Streaming Into Cyprus to Buy Anything in Sight.โ
