According to reports, Iran has issued six demands that the US must meet to end the war, including guarantees against future aggression, the closure of US military bases in the region, and compensation payments to the Islamic Republic
US President Donald Trump threatened on 22 March to attack Iran’s power plants if the Islamic Republic does not allow free passage for western vessels through the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
“If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST,” Trump wrote on his social media platform on Truth Social on Saturday night.
After the US and Israel launched the war on Iran on 28 February, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it would close the strait to vessels linked to “aggressor nations,” while maritime insurers in the UK and New York cancelled war risk coverage for vessels operating in the Persian Gulf.
The closure of Hormuz has brought Gulf oil production to a near standstill, drastically raising oil prices worldwide, particularly in Asia.
