🚨🇺🇸 REGIME CHANGE, but at home: the US faces its own playbook
For decades, the United States weaponised the art of regime change abroad — toppling governments, reshaping regions, and engineering outcomes from Iraq to Libya. But in a twist of irony, as the Iran war intensifies, the loudest whispers of “regime change” are no longer about Tehran — they are about Washington itself.
In recent weeks, massive protests under the slogan “No Kings” have taken place across all 50 US states. Between 3,100 and 3,300 protest events have been recorded.
Organisers estimate total turnout at 8 to 9 million people nationwide — one of the largest single-day protest mobilisations in US history.
Pentagon shake-up and division amid war
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has removed top military leadership, including Army Chief Gen. Randy George and other senior generals, during an active war — an extraordinary move with no clear explanation.
More than a dozen high-ranking officers have reportedly been pushed out, signalling deep friction within military command. Attorney General Pam Bondi has been dismissed. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has been removed. FBI Director Kash Patel is reportedly preparing to step down.
Resignations over the Iran war
The fractures extend beyond the Pentagon. National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent has resigned, openly opposing the war and stating that Iran posed no imminent threat to the US.
A government in flux
Reports of further departures, internal leaks, and leadership turnover paint a picture of instability. War pressure, rising casualties, and unclear objectives are straining the administration’s cohesion, as decision-making becomes increasingly contested.
Trump has also begun to step back from campaign promises — including commitments to protect Medicare and support childcare. More may follow.
War abroad, division at home
The Iran conflict — launched with ambitions of decisive outcomes, even regime change — has instead produced uncertainty. Markets have reacted negatively, oil prices have surged, and public scepticism is growing as the war drags on.
Meanwhile, a pardoned Capitol rioter is now leaving the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Trump’s team increasingly resembles the final days of Richard Nixon — marked by weekly resignations and daily chaos.
