Veteran analyst Alastair Crooke argues that Tel Aviv’s actions can’t be understood through secular logic. The far right, he says, openly welcomes a “huge crisis” to fulfill prophecy and bring redemption.

Crooke recalls years-old comments by Smotrich, who said a major war was needed to complete the settlement project — a worldview he believes explains Netanyahu’s push for conflict with Iran.

He notes similar language has now appeared in US military messaging, signaling a dangerous convergence. Yet Iran wins simply by surviving. America loses by failing to achieve victory — and the myth of American invincibility is already gone.
