⭕ EU criticizes US sanctions on ICC officials
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas voiced “deep regret” over Washington’s decision to sanction two ICC judges and two deputy prosecutors, warning it could affect ongoing investigations.
“The EU once again deeply regrets the decision… This decision may impact the functioning of the Office of the Prosecutor and ongoing investigations,” she said in a statement.
Kallas affirmed the bloc’s “firm” support for the Court, stressing: “Attacks or threats against the Court, elected officials, personnel and those cooperating with the Court are not acceptable. The ICC must be able to work independently and impartially.
”She urged states to ensure “full cooperation” with the ICC and said Brussels is monitoring the sanctions’ impact and may take “further steps.”
