West Azerbaijan Governor Reza Rahmani announced new railway projects to boost trade and connectivity, including the Urmia–Salmas line to connect with Turkiye via the Bazargan crossing and an extension from Merage–Urmia through Piranshahr and Temurcin to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
He also said Nakade Station will be transformed into an export terminal with private investment, positioning the province as a key regional trade corridor.
