⭕️ China orders state-funded data centers to use only domestic AI chips
The Chinese government has issued new directives requiring that any state-funded data center projects use only domestically produced artificial intelligence chips, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
In recent weeks, Chinese regulators have instructed data centers that are less than 30% complete to remove any foreign chips already installed or cancel planned purchases of such components. Projects at more advanced stages will be reviewed individually, the sources said.
The policy marks one of China’s strongest moves yet to phase out foreign technology from critical infrastructure and push toward AI chip self-sufficiency, even as trade tensions with Washington remain on hold.
