❗️US President Donald Trump has formally requested that Israeli President Isaac Herzog grant a pardon to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In the formal letter, Trump describes Benjamin Netanyahu, who has presided over the mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza and the deliberate starvation of children, as a leader “now guiding Israel into a time of peace.”
Netanyahu is currently facing charges of fraud, bribery, and breach of trust in three separate cases that date back to Trump’s first term. The pardon requested by Trump pertains specifically to these legal cases, and not to any of Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza, despite the widespread and ongoing crimes being committed.
In response, Herzog expressed gratitude for Trump’s show of support but clarified that “anyone seeking a pardon must submit a formal request in accordance with established procedures.”
