❗️US leans toward covert and military escalation as Iran signals readiness for war
US President Donald Trump has been briefed on an array of covert and military options against Iran, according to two US Department of Defense officials cited by CBS News. These options reportedly include long-range missile strikes, alongside cyber operations and psychological campaigns, which are measures that underscore Washington’s readiness to escalate.
The briefing comes as Trump announced a 25% tariff on goods from countries doing business with Iran. Iran’s foreign minister has said Tehran is open to talks with Washington but remains “prepared for war,” highlighting a stark contrast between Iran’s stated openness and the US focus on punitive pressure.
Trump’s national security team is expected to meet at the White House to discuss Iran, though it is unclear if the president will attend. Trump has warned that the US military is considering “very strong options”, suggesting the US “may have to act before a meeting.”
