❗️US approves $151.8 million ’emergency’ weapons sale to Israel amid ongoing war on Iran, bypassing congressional review
The Trump administration on Friday approved a $151.8 million weapons sale to Israel, invoking “emergency” authority to bypass congressional review as the US and Israel continue their deadly attacks on Iran. The proposed sale includes 12,000 BLU-110A/B 1,000-pound bomb bodies, along with engineering, logistics, and technical support. The State Department said the Secretary of State determined an emergency exists that requires immediate transfer, waiving the usual congressional oversight under Section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act. The principal contractor will be Repkon USA in Garland, Texas, with some munitions drawn from existing US stockpiles.
The approval comes amid escalating regional tensions following the joint US-Israeli airstrikes on 28 February, which killed more than 1,000 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials. Iran has responded with strikes targeting US-linked sites across the region, and a drone attack in Kuwait recently killed six US service members at a tactical operations center.
