❗️UNIFIL shoots down Israeli drone in south Lebanon
An Israeli drone was downed by the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Kfar Kila, south Lebanon, on Sunday, the Israeli military announced today.
According to the Israeli army, the unmanned aircraft did not pose any threat to UNIFIL personnel, but the peacekeepers opened fire and shot it down.
UNIFIL reported that the drone had flown over its patrol “in an aggressive manner,” prompting the force to take “necessary defensive countermeasures to neutralize the drone.”
Israel added that after the UAV was downed, another drone flew over the area and dropped a grenade. UNIFIL stated that the grenade landed near its patrol and that an Israeli tank also fired in the direction of its observers, describing the incident as a breach of a UN Security Council resolution and of Lebanese sovereignty.
