❗️UAE lobbying to conceal its role in ongoing Sudan atrocities
Politico reports that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched an intensive lobbying effort to keep any reference to its alleged role in the war in Sudan out of a European Parliament resolution. Some MEPs pushed to freeze EU trade talks with the UAE over claims that weapons have flowed through Emirati channels to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia group.
Rights groups and several media outlets have published investigations alleging that the UAE supplied arms to the RSF through regional routes, and US intelligence leaks cited by the Wall Street Journal raised similar concerns.
Left-wing MEPs tried to amend the resolution to name the UAE, but conservative blocs rejected the proposals. The final text condemned RSF atrocities in El-Fasher and called for sanctions on external enablers. Emirati envoy Lana Nusseibeh welcomed the adopted resolution, while a Sudanese army general claimed without evidence that global silence over RSF abuses was bought with Emirati money.
