❗️Since start of genocide in Gaza, Israel’s ‘defense‘ expenditures soar
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that total war-related expenditures have reached 250 billion shekels, most of which are linked to ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip.
Senior officials in the Finance Ministry said the army’s management of reservist deployment resulted in major financial losses, with billions of shekels wasted through excessive service-related payments. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said during a press briefing that further budget increases are needed to sustain Israel’s economic growth, though he provided no details on allocations.
The reported costs are believed to include operations not only in Gaza but also in southern Lebanon and the 12-day confrontation with Iran in June, although no official breakdown has been released. Despite a so-called ceasefire announced on 11 October, Israel has continued to unleash airstrikes, artillery attacks, and demolitions across the enclave.
