❗️Italy’s Leonardo unveils new multi-layered ‘Michelangelo Dome’ air-defense system
Italy’s defense and aerospace firm Leonardo today unveiled plans for a new multi-layered air-defense system, as European nations continue strengthening their military capabilities.
The “Michelangelo Dome” is intended to safeguard critical infrastructure and strategically important national or international sites by linking together various platforms and assets across space, air, land, and sea.
The system can identify, follow, intercept, and disable incoming aerial threats, including rockets, missiles, and drones, before they reach their targets, functioning in a manner similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.
“This is a model that is important for security in Italy, Europe and NATO countries in the coming years,” Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani said during the launch event in Rome.
