❗️Israel, US reportedly set two-month deadline for Hamas disarmament
According to Israel Hayom, Israel and the United States have reportedly agreed to give Hamas two months to disarm following a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump.
Joint professional teams are to define concrete disarmament benchmarks, most notably the destruction of Gaza’s tunnel network, with Israeli officials expressing skepticism that Hamas would relinquish its military capabilities; if the deadline passes unmet, responsibility for next steps would revert to Israel and the Israeli army.
In parallel, Trump said he will unveil a “day after” plan for Gaza on 15 January, 2026, including an international oversight body and a new civilian governing authority to replace Hamas. He threatened severe consequences if disarmament fails and suggested possible foreign involvement in Gaza’s future governance, while also claiming many Palestinians would leave if given the option, remarks Israeli officials downplayed as having limited immediate practical impact.
