❗️Israel expands Gaza occupation under ceasefire, seizing nearly 10% more Palestinian land
A new analysis of updated Gaza maps shows Israeli forces have steadily pushed westward the so-called “yellow line”, occupying nearly an additional 10 percent of Palestinian territory over the past two months. The study by Gaza Maps found that the area between the truce line and the yellow concrete blocks marking it now accounts for almost 10 percent of the Gaza Strip.
As a result, the Israeli forces now control roughly 63 percent of Gaza, forcing Palestinians into less than 38 percent of the besieged enclave. The yellow line effectively splits Gaza in two, leaving Israel in control of the eastern portion while concentrating most of the territory’s roughly two million residents into increasingly cramped areas amid widespread destruction.
A US-backed ceasefire that took effect on 11 October defined the yellow line as a temporary withdrawal boundary, with further Israeli pullbacks meant to follow. Instead, Israeli forces have continued advancing westward since the truce began, occupying additional Palestinian neighborhoods, declaring them no-go zones, and pushing civilians to survive inside the shrinking areas left under relentless devastation from the ongoing Israeli genocide.
