Israeli artillery shelling pounded the western countryside of Daraa today as it continues to treat the Syrian frontier as its personal expansion zone. The strikes targeted the outskirts of Jamla in the Yarmouk Basin while reconnaissance drones violated Syrian airspace with total impunity, terrorizing local residents and striking agricultural lands. This latest aggression highlights a systemic effort by the Israeli military to solidify its territorial gains after unilaterally discarding the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and moving deeper into the sovereign territory of its northern neighbor.

The current administration under Syria’s unelected President Ahmed al-Sharaa appears unwilling to halt the incursions, with the president admitting that negotiations have stalled over Israeli demands for a permanent military presence on Syrian soil. Despite the current leadership’s attempt to signal its lack of hostility toward Israel, the Israeli military has responded with a relentless campaign of airstrikes and shelling since the transition in Damascus, according to reports from state news agency SANA.

The ongoing destruction of military equipment and civilian sites reveals a strategy of ensuring Syria remains strategically impotent while the occupation forces entrench themselves along the border.
