❗️Germany rules out recognizing Palestinian state
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on Tuesday that Germany would not take part in an initiative to recognize a Palestinian state at next month’s UN General Assembly.
He made the remarks during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who announced last month that Canada would recognize the state of Palestine at the General Assembly, joining similar moves by France and Britain.
“The position of the federal government is clear, as far as the possible recognition of the state of Palestine is concerned,” Merz said.
“Canada knows this. We will not join this initiative. We don’t see the requirements met,” he added.
