The Times of Israel reports that Israel-backed anti-Hamas militias inside Israeli-controlled zones of Gaza, led by figures like Hossam al-Astal, are pushing to shape “New Gaza,” arguing they can secure areas and work with local professionals.

But the Trump plan for Gaza’s “day after” allegedly excludes armed groups, instead proposing a technocratic, apolitical committee under international oversight. Even some US officials have avoided embracing the “New Gaza” framing, and the PA publicly distances itself from militia ties.

Local voices quoted by the Times of Israel say the militias lack broad public backing and governing capacity, while Hamas, rejecting disarmament, seeks to reassert influence and even shape the technocratic slate from behind the scenes. With the Yellow Line ceasefire boundary limiting movement and no Palestinian consensus on governance, the report portrays a fragmented landscape: militias seeking relevance, Hamas unyielding on arms, and a US-backed plan betting on technocrats over gunmen.
